Dining and Activities To Compliment Your Palm Beach Yacht Show Experience
Unlike other yacht shows, which can feel a little corporate, the Palm Beach Yacht Show has a laid-back atmosphere, which is very much in keeping with the easy-living approach to things in the Sunshine State.
The West Palm Beach Boat Show feels less like a separate entity and more like an extension of Palm Beach’s luxury lifestyle. Between yacht viewings and sea trials, visitors can indulge in the leisurely pastimes for which Palm Beach is renowned.
Take in a polo match, visit one of Palm Beach County’s most chilled-out spas, or wander down Worth Avenue – Palm Beach’s elegant shopping street.
Palm Beach has been a fashionable place to be since the Gilded Age of the late 19th century when Henry M Flagler, a rich oil magnate, had the vision to turn an unkempt, swampy region of South Florida into a wealthy enclave that attracted many of America’s great families.
Many of the mansions built to realise Flagler’s vision, including his own Beaux-Arts-style home that now houses the excellent Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, remain as an architectural reminder of this time.
However it was the European-influenced makeover by architect Addison Mizner in the 1920s that transformed the old-money grandeur of the area into a glitzy resort for America’s elite, by building a slew of swish condos.
The iconic Colony Hotel with its pink façade, is perhaps the place that epitomises this era most, and the kudos placed on it by Hollywood royalty such as Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren remains.
It’s almost obligatory to visit the legendary Everglades, a hotel with championship golf courses that has lost little of its allure over the years, during the Palm Beach Yacht Show,
while cocktails at The Breakers offer a great way to catch up with your yachting friends and colleagues.
Edmiston’s in-the-know brokers can also secure tables at some of the most sought after restaurants in town, including Tuscan-inspired Bice and the American-style cooking of Clay Conley at Buccan restaurant.
